Students should always be encouraged to have a balanced yet active life. Although they are always overburdened with academics and the pressure of performance always lurks on their heads. Do not forget that some extra curricular activities are needed to keep lives in an optimal balance of brains and brawn.

Schools in Ahmedabad always have this etched into the students’ life so that when these young people set out for their journey in life, they can strike a balance between the two. Of course, academics are of top-most importance, but if a child keeps on brooding overstudies, their lives will usher in boredom and make them stressed.

Diverting a students’ mind from regular studies to music, games, debates, art, or even gardening helps them flourish as human beings. It will also be helpful for the students to follow a few points and stick to them so that they can strike a balance and manage properly between studies and extra-curricular activities.

Prioritising exams over sports:

extra curricular activitiesStudents should be taught to prioritise what is essential and toggle between what is best suited to them. There might be instances where a student can have examinations in a fortnight, but a significant match for a sport needs their presence and participation. It is here that the student needs to decide to keep in mind the current academic condition as to how their preparation is for the upcoming examination. If they think they will manage well, they must continue their sports practice and academics to motivate them to study hard for their exams.

Time Management:

The next most important thing which will be beneficial for children throughout their lives is the concept of time management. It is for them to decide how much time they will invest in pursuing a hobby, how much time they will spend practising maths, or how much time they will be giving on overcoming the weaknesses in the subject that needs special attention. If this habit gets proper nurture from the students, it will help them throughout their life. The best way to handle time management is by creating a timetable, and students should create one as it will help them utilise their time effectively.

Importance to Healthy Diet:

It is of vital importance for the students to stick to a very healthy diet with the inclusion of a lot of water and also consumption of green vegetables being essential. In places like Zebar School, Ahmedabad, they pay special attention to this, and the faculty guides the students in a very caring manner which boosts the students’ confidence level. They emphasise a proper sleep routine and also encourage academics and extra-curricular activities for the child.

Educators of Zebar School, through various activities and events, inculcate the habits of healthy diet and exercise in the students.

Regular breaks:

Students should take frequent breaks from studies while studying and continue their creative activities to keep themselves constructively busy.

Creative activities help the students to broaden their vision and enhance their imagination, thus boosting creativity. Many creative activities are also held in the school by the Art and Craft and Dance and Music Department.

Art festivals, Annual Events of Zebar School, help to showcase this creative aspect of our students.

These are some golden rules that the students can take up to ensure that they attain equilibrium in studies and other recreational activities. It should be taken up by the CBSE Board schools in Ahmedabad and by all other schools. It will let them live a life that they will enjoy and help them overcome many obstacles in the later years of life. Moreover, this delicate balance between academic and extra-curricular activities will help our students enhance their personalities and turn themselves into well-rounded individuals.

The digitisation of education due to the pandemic has left parents ruffled as they are practising the fine art of balancing between online classes and screen time. However, this fine line can be managed with some simple, easy hacks at home. Initially, it will be frustrating as a parent but instead of yelling at the child, try to implement some of the hacks we have curated by the counselling department of one of the best schools in Ahmedabad.

1. Prepare a timetable
It may sound odd, but if you prepare a timetable for your child, you may be able to make out how many hours does your child spend on the screen. Allot a specific time for online games and try to stick to it. Don’t give into the child’s demands easily.

2. Check school homework daily
Your child gets enough homework and projects from school. Some of the best cbse schools in Ahmedabad provide homework regularly and parents should monitor their child’s school work. Check whether they have been submitted or not. Follow-up with the child to ensure that assignments are submitted on time.

3. Reading time
Make reading mandatory at home. It can be anything from the daily newspaper, kindle books, children’s magazines or any science fiction or adventure stories. You can also visit the school during the school hours and get the books issued from the school’s library. Zebar School provides Times NIE daily to each student. Check connecting millions and motivate your child to read it.

4. Cultivate hobbies in your child
Give them new books, paints, puzzles, crosswords to solve. If your child loves reading, encourage your child to buy new books to read. Follow your child’s favourite author and buy the newly launched books.

5. Board Games
Bring board games back at home. You can use Chess, Ludo, Carrom Board or Scrabble. Sit with your child and try to play at least twice a week.

6. Household chores
Assign your child simple household tasks like filling up water bottles, organising the room or watering the plants. Appreciate the child if the job is finished.

7. Weekends Special
Make each weekend special. Take them on long drives, sit with them and ensure that their classwork and homework are finished. Find out what they have accomplished in the week. Plan a family cooking session; children love baking. If not baking, you can teach them to make sandwiches and juices every weekend.

8. Stop mindless scrolling on your screen
Children lead by example. If you stop checking your social pages on weekends, children will get more attention and shall follow you. Never talk to a child while you are checking your phone; it gives them a negative signal. Always keep the phone aside and talk to your child.

9. Create bedtime rituals
Bedtime rituals are necessary as it helps the children to maintain a sleep cycle. Don’t allow children to play video games late at night. Make it a point to switch off the lights at 10 pm.

10. No Gadget Hour
Introduce your children to a ‘No Gadget Hour’ trend. It is a new trend catching up fast in Western countries. All you must do is fix a family time when no one touches the gadgets for that particular time. You can initially start with one hour daily in the evening and slowly move on to two hours. Appreciate and reward your child if they follow it. Make the reward exciting and creative for the child. It can be anything like ordering for an ice-cream treat or playing with them.

Patience is the key to changing habits in children. So keep patient and try these alternatives we have mentioned above in our blog. If, in any case, you don’t see any positive change in your child and you find that the child remains glued to the screen, then you can contact the school counsellor. Top CBSE schools in Ahmedabad provide personalised counselling services for the child. Get in touch with the counselling department and try to work out a solution today.

Coding Classes For Zebar Students Live, Instructor – Led Class, No Recorded Videos

The mission of the school is to nurture children and provide them with the best facilities as well as technologies so that they are ready to face the digital challenges. Coding is included in the curriculum of Zebar School since 2016. Computer classes are held every week to prepare the young children for the new language of the 21st century. Each child is given a dedicated computer – so that they can type directly on to the computer and see the results themselves. At times schools have 1:2 computers in labs- so two children share one computer. In that case usually the child who is tech savvy learns faster. At Zebar School since we have 1:1 ratio of student to computer children have better learning experience.

What is Coding?
Coding is a language used to communicate with computers. Code instructs the computer to take actions, and writing code is like preparing a particular set of instructions. These instructions can tell computers what to do or how they should behave so that actions can be taken in a faster manner. Knowledge of coding helps to create websites, apps and games.

Why should we teach coding to children?

Coding teaches logical reasoning and critical thinking and it helps children grow that faculty of brain. In normal life this ability helps students in many entrance exams and real world problem solving.

Coding right now is in high demand, and it provides a competitive benefit to our students. It helps young minds to understand the world in a better way. In addition to that, it is fun and satisfying. Coding not only improves creativity but also helps in enhancing problem solving, persistence, collaboration and communication.

Coding In Primary School

Scratch a visual programming language is introduced in primary school. Students create interactive stories, games and animations that can be shared online. It helps young people to think creatively, reason, organise and work in a team.

Some key features of Scratch are that it is easy to understand and learn. It creates interest in young child for programming. Instead of writing text or code, predefined blocks are snapped together to create the script. Scratch allows playful experimenting with program segments.

It is used by millions of people across the globe in various homes, schools, museums, libraries and community centres.

Coding in Middle School and Secondary School

In Middle and Secondary School, students learn languages that enhance their logical and reasoning skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Python

Python acts as a steppingstone into the world of programming. It is a general-purpose and high-level programming language that has been used by computer programmers for the last 30 years.

Advantages of teaching Python to students are the language is versatile and easy to learn.

Many automation, data mining and big data platforms rely on Python. It is the ideal language to learn for students at the age of 10- 13yrs and is the fastest-growing programming language in the world.

HTML- Students are also introduced to HTML(HyperText Mark-Up -Language) from class 8 onwards. HTML is the most popular languages across the Internet. Every webpage is built with the help of HTML. It is a base skill that every programmer learns.

Students in Zebar are trained to use HTML to design web pages and small websites. The syntax of HTML is straightforward to understand.

Artificial Intelligence

Zebar School has launched AI for grade 9 students. The curriculum has been designed to develop an understanding and appreciating Artificial Intelligence and its application in our lives. The school is also planning the integration of AI other subjects in all the classes to develop problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities in students.

AI is using Python programming language for the coding purpose. Students develop an understanding and working of Neural Networks. They are taught to identify and appreciate Artificial intelligence to describe its applications in daily life.

Computer programming is the future

The entire world is expanding at a swift pace, and coding is a highly useful skill. Many businesses depend entirely on computer code, not only the technology sector.

At Zebar we believe that a child who learns how to code shall have additional benefits in a career with more employment opportunities in the future, no matter what industry they choose be it in the IT Sector, hospitality, banking, retail or health sector. This is the main reason why coding is taught in Zebar.
